Two tips for shop owners who are going to have their new split systems fitted in the winter
ShareGetting an air conditioner installed before the warm weather hits is very sensible as it means that the moment the heat arrives, you'll be able to start cooling down your premises. If the installation of the split system air conditioner in your shop is going to be carried out during the winter, you should consider these helpful tips.
Buy a few small fan heaters for your shop
Split system air conditioning installation work is usually much quicker and quieter than the installation of other air conditioning systems (such as ducted ones). This means that you should be able to continue running your shop whilst the HVAC contractor is working as their presence is unlikely to disturb your customers.
However, if you decide to keep the shop open whilst your new split system is being installed, you should buy a few small fan heaters (i.e. heaters that are electrically powered) and place them all around the shop. The reason for this is that if the contractor will be fitting a reverse split system (i.e. one that can heat as well as cool a room), that will be replacing your shop's current heating system, then they will probably have to disconnect the latter for the duration of the installation.
If this is the case and there are no other heat sources in the shop, then your premises will become increasingly chilly each time someone opens the shop door and lets some more of the cold winter air inside. The shock of cold air that greets customers when they walk into your shop could be so unpleasant that they might simply turn around and leave, instead of buying the items they had intended to. As such, you must set up these little heaters, to keep your shop toasty whilst the HVAC contractor is working and the old heating system is disconnected.
Get the items you need to protect any external unit the HVAC contractor installs
If your shop is in a place with particularly cold winters, then you should ensure that you buy the items you may need to protect the external section of the split system that the HVAC contractor installs. For example, you might want to purchase an insulating cover for the unit itself, that you can put on it when it is not switched on. This should prevent ice from forming on the unit and affecting its airflow and efficiency. Additionally, you might want to get a small shovel, to scoop up any snow that collects on or around the unit as this, too, could cause airflow issues. Getting and using these items as soon as the HVAC contractor finishes installing your new system will ensure that it doesn't develop problems before you've even had a chance to really make use of it.
